Deciding to launch a podcast was never in my plans. Yet, here we are! By March 2021 I had gotten so frustrated with not being able to really do anything about the fact that my spiritual home was kind of broken, that I decided to act. 21st Century Saints was born out of loss and pain and that fact that I take my religion seriously. When Young Women’s General President, Elaine Dalton told us that “one .. woman .. can change the world ..” I believed her and took her seriously. My friends have all left the church as acts of integrity. I want to talk about that! I want to talk about the pain in staying active, the agony of leaving and faith transition, I want to talk about it because it turns out that most of us actually need to talk about it. To those comfortable folks who stay, who are happy, who don’t want to talk, feel free to carry on. Don’t look if this is not right for you. But I ask you to consider listening. Because if you want to keep your covenants then you have to hear that the assumptions you make about how most people experience Mormonism are just not accurate. You promised to bind up wounds, so you have to pay attention in order to understand where it hurts.
So that’s why I’m here. I’m active, I’m temple recommend holding and I host a podcast. There are many great podcasts out there, but we speak to uniquely non American experiences. My interest is in how people affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the UK are experiencing their faith. This is a critical time, it really feels like the church is dying in this country. I want to know what’s happening? What isn’t working? Why are the answers, which are sufficient for the tiny amount of people who stay, not helping people who are spending years struggling to make it work?
So that’s my story. That’s why I’m here.
And now, we have a blog!
The written word is more accessible for many, its a creative outlet for experienced and new writers, and we want to keep amplifying the voices of those who have something to say.
We’re inviting you to share your thoughts. You can post as yourself or use a screen name to remain anonymous. What’s the talk you’ve always wanted to give, the lesson you wish you’d had or that thing you wish you’d said in class? We want to invite you join us, as a 21t Century Saint, regardless of your church status. Whether your True Believing and all in, PiMo, ProgMo, NeverMo, ExMo, we invite you to share your voice.
